Ethiopia, GERD’s began generating power

On Sunday, Prime Minster Dr. Abiy and others government officials opened the GERD and toured the dam's power generation station and pressed a number of buttons which initiated production to starting point.

The Ethiopian government addressed that it will transform the national economy, which has been damaged by war & drought when it is fully operational.

Africa's largest power plant, the GERD’s first turbine began generating power. This is a good news for our continent & the downstream countries with whom we aspire to work together. As Ethiopia marks the birth of a new era, I congratulate all Ethiopians!

The 1st turbine with a capacity of generating 375 MW was inaugurated today. When all 13 turbines are completed, GERD will have a "total generation capacity of 5,150MW & annual energy of 15.76TWH,"
